After a 7 year break my Thursday Nights at The Westbourne Huts is back!

We’re so delighted to welcome Margot Shannon to Thursday Nights at The Westbourne Huts.

Why Margot is so special to me

Margot has been a dear friend of mine for the past 30 years, and over that time I’ve come to know her as someone who is warm, thoughtful, kind, charismatic, loving and full of effortless style.

She and her husband, Chris, own and run Merchant Campbell, a truly beautiful and distinctive shop in Yass. Opening a shop in a country town was a real leap of faith, and that story alone is one I know so many of us will love hearing more about.

What I especially admire about Margot is her genuine passion for supporting small businesses, artisans, and ethical, environmentally sustainable makers. That care and conviction are woven through everything she does, and they are a big part of what makes her such a wonderful guest for Thursday Nights.

The heart of Merchant Campbell

At the heart of Merchant Campbell is a love of beautiful, useful, and well-designed things. Margot (and Chris) have created a shop that brings together home furnishings and lifestyle pieces chosen with care, with the hope that more people can fill their lives with things that are both practical and lovely.

· They place real value on quality, service, and thoughtful selection.

· They actively support artisans, small business owners, and ethical, environmentally sustainable producers.

· Their collection is carefully curated, with many one-off pieces that make the shop feel especially unique.

The story behind the name

The Merchant Campbell story reaches back to 1798, when the original Merchant Campbell, Robert Campbell, arrived from the rugged Argyll coastline of Scotland and began importing goods from Calcutta, India, to the fledgling colony of New South Wales. He was one of the first businessmen in the new settlement and is remembered by many as the father of Australian commerce. It’s a rich and meaningful history, and one that adds another lovely layer to the spirit of the shop today.

What is Thursday Nights at the Westbourne Huts?

Thursday Nights are an invitation to gather in warmth and ease, to laugh, to linger in conversation, to share a meal, and to be quietly inspired by one another.

Westbourne Huts is a truly special place, a sanctuary of creativity, connection, and healing, and it is my joy to open this space to others. These evenings are a celebration of story, of the moments, memories, and quiet truths that shape who we are. So often, we discover something beautiful about a person only when it is spoken in reflection in a eulogy.

Here, there is room to share those stories now, with tenderness, curiosity, and love.

Each speaker has a chosen charity that they wish to donate to.

Margot has chosen is the Bookham Berremangra Red Cross.

$20 from each ticket will be donated.
